Tales of New Albion

DAREN CALLOW, member of Brighton Theatre of the Air and author of Tales of New Albion.

Here is Daren’s own account of how he came to write his amazing collection of Steampunk stories.

I’m a local, Hove-based author and podcaster who has
found himself caught up in the crazy sci-fi world of Steampunk.  It was an accident really, I woke up one morning with a fully formed Steampunk story in my head and, after chatting to a friend who runs a local event, wrote it down in order to perform it as a reading.  One thing led to another and I ended up with ten stories that ended up forming a kind of deconstructed novel. I published myself on Amazon, with artwork by the brilliant artist and performer – Frog Morris. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06XB2QMCW

A big part of the stories has always been performing them live and after getting involved in Brighton Theatre of The Air I was inspired to do more character voices. In turn this led to the suggestion of creating an audio book, and since that seemed too daunting, it ended up being a weekly podcast instead. So I’m currently serialising the first book in weekly episodes with new comedic material and music by Charlotte Savigar to create a kind of spoof radio programme, hosted by the eccentric Theodore Pilkington-Rhubarb. You can find the podcast on iTunes and Soundcloud. https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/tales-of-new-albion/id129032420

I’m still writing stories and hope to have a second collection published in the next couple of years.  I always welcome feedback and would love to hear what you think of the stories and the podcast.
